The year 2018, ushered in winter then came spring, summer and now we’ve come full-circle with the first weekend of winter in Southern Ontario, Canada. With winter, encroaches the ambiance of holiday bliss! Folks usually avoiding the hustle, and bustle in shopping malls for Christmas holiday shopping, escapes long lines at cash-out registers; by shopping online.
This is the year when Canada Post, tell Canadians find another carrier! It’s time to part with tradition the almighty capitalist market has long been chipping away at Canada Post’s monopoly. Today Canada Post customer list, and profit margins continue to shrink..
Canada Postal workers have been on the picket line, since October 22nd, 2018! The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) realizes the Christmas season is upon us, and this would be the best time to force Canada Post into a shut-down for bargaining rights!
Postal workers have put their faith into the hands of their union negotiators; seeking pay hikes and better working conditions.

The longer this strike continues, the more comfortable people get seeking out alternative means of receiving their holiday parcels..for example: choosing other carriers, not using online shopping, or giving home made gifts..Ever heard of online greeting cards..emails and more–of course you have!
Who gets hurt by the consequences…? Above all, the employees who have to contend with reduced wages..no more over-time..or a well earned pay-cheque. Ironic huh..one of the issues brought forth on the bargaining table were complaints of over-time. Postal workers celebrate the holidays too…short pay doesn’t go very far in providing for everyone’s obligations.
Canada Post customers suffer, but that’s minimal for the most part…unless you are waiting on medical supplies..or some other pertinent mail/purchase carried by Canada Post.
Postal workers will feel the brunt of this shut-down…there is not endless public protesting, so likely jobs will be lost. The things we need in life…are also the things that impact our security..
We need unions to have job security..but then unions walk away from the bargaining table and fronline workers suffer the consequences!
So what’s the solution..can you sue the union for job lost, income loss..or
employee cuts?
Frontline workers ought to consider job security more often than not when voting to engage in strike action!
On a less objectionable note, summer 2018, was charming for everyone who had the opportunity to ponder!
